No More Reading Glasses? FDA-approved Vizz Eye Drops for Near Vision
In this Blog:
New drops called Vizz, approved by the FDA, can help eliminate the need for glasses by addressing nearsightedness
A new prescription eye drop called Vizz has gained FDA approval in the U.S. as an innovative treatment for presbyopia — the age-related difficulty many experience seeing things up close. This condition typically begins in people aged 40 and older as the eye's lens loses flexibility, making close vision blurry. For many, this means relying on reading glasses or contact lenses to see small print clearly.
Vizz works differently from traditional treatments by using the active ingredient aceclidine to create a "pinhole effect" inside the eye. This effect narrows the pupil, similar to how a camera lens works, which enhances the eye's depth of focus and allows users to see nearby objects sharply. Unlike some other drops, Vizz does not cause a "zoomed-in" effect or negatively affect distance vision.
Clinical studies have shown that Vizz can improve near vision within 30 minutes of use, with effects lasting up to 10 hours. In trials, over 70% of users experienced at least a three-line improvement in near vision without compromising their ability to see at a distance. It is applied once daily, making it convenient for managing presbyopia during daily activities.
While Vizz offers a promising non-surgical alternative to reading glasses, it is not without mild side effects. Some users reported temporary dim vision, eye irritation, and headaches. Additionally, caution is advised when performing activities requiring sharp vision, such as driving, right after application.
Though currently only approved in the U.S. with a broad launch expected by October 2025, plans are underway to bring Vizz to Canada through licensing arrangements, but no specific timeline has been confirmed.
For the millions frustrated with the limitations of reading glasses, Vizz represents a disruptive advancement in presbyopia care that could soon transform how near vision loss is managed.
This breakthrough is an exciting development for anyone seeking a modern, glasses-free solution to age-related blurry near vision.
